Background on Solar

The solar power industry has a history of over 70 years of development and is gaining momentum due to new legislation and need to improve the health of our environment. Some highlights are:

1939 – First panel patent was issued in the US.
1950 -  Earliest panel studied for efficiency (85% efficiency still).
2009 – Green Energy act passed in Ontario led by the Feed-In Tariff (FIT) Program.

We know that the development of solar power is soaring to support the world’s need for clean, renewable energy sources.  So what does the usage (by %) look like on a world scale?

1st -  Germany (led by FIT).
2nd -  Spain (led by FIT).
3rd – US (led by tax incentive programs).

Where does Canada stand? Now that the legislations is in place right here in Ontario, all eyes are on the province.  AMP Solar Group™ is set to pioneer and lead the growth of the solar pv industry.

Solar generation is a clean source of power that will enhance your corporate social responsibility efforts and AMP Solar Group™ can help you do that.

The Green Energy Act

In 2009, the Ontario government passed the landmark Green Energy Act (GEA) which will:

  1. Boost investment and growth in clean and renewable energy projects such as solar, wind, hydro, biomass and biogas.
  2. Increase conservation.
  3. Create green jobs and economic growth in Ontario through the first Feed-In Tariff (FIT) program in North America.

How can this be leveraged?

The Ontario Power Authority (OPA) will contract for a 20 year power purchase agreement with the power generator and will offer the following:

  1. A significant premium over the current price of electricity in Ontario.
  2. Prices will be between 53.9 cents/kWh and 80.2 cents/kWh for power they produce.

The FIT program will:

  1. Provide incentives for solar arrays to be installed on commercial, industrial and residential rooftops throughout Ontario.
  2. Provide a healthy return on investment if the installation is done properly and with the most efficient technology.
  3. Turn your rooftop into a source of income generation and increase the value of your asset.
